# Create your public profile

> Personalize your TrueCurrent trader identity with a display name, tagline, profile image, and optional X connection.

Create a public profile to personalize your trader identity with a display name, profile details, and an optional image.

You must be signed in to create a profile. Creating one is optional: traders can appear on the [leaderboard](/social/leaderboard), have a public trader page, and follow other traders using their default identity.

## Create your profile

1. Open **Profile settings**.
2. Select the option to create your public profile.
3. Enter an available display name of no more than **20 characters**.
4. Add an optional tagline of no more than **100 characters**.
5. Upload a profile image, or keep the image provided by TrueCurrent.
6. Optionally connect your X account.
7. Review your profile and save your changes.

## Connect your X account

Connecting X can fill in profile information from your X account, including your profile image and banner when available. You can still upload a different profile image.

  An X account can only be connected to one TrueCurrent profile. Your display name must also be available before you can save it.

## How profile images are selected

TrueCurrent uses the first available image in this order:

1. An image you uploaded
2. Your connected X profile image
3. A generated default image

The generated image is tied to your wallet. The same wallet keeps the same image when the page is refreshed or visited again.

If your X account does not have a banner, TrueCurrent uses its default profile background.

## Troubleshooting

### My display name is unavailable

Another profile is already using that name. Choose a different name with no more than 20 characters. If X fills in a name that is already taken, edit it before saving.

### I cannot connect my X account

Your X account may already be connected to another TrueCurrent profile. Use the TrueCurrent account associated with that X account, or connect a different X account.

### I see a generated image instead of my avatar

TrueCurrent uses a generated image when there is no uploaded profile image and no connected X profile image. Upload an image or connect an X account with a profile image to replace it.
